Youth Update
[March 18, 2002] by Dion Bright, WVBF Youth Director
As I stated in my last column, I was working on a new section of the website just for kids. Kids
Corner is now up and running. This new section will help us show the youths we work with and help how much
we, as a federation, appreciate them. If any clubs has any photos, stories, information about their own youth outings,
or casting kids competitions that they have had or have scheduled, please forward those to me.
This past year, there were only 14 Casting Kids events held throughout the state. I would like to see this number
double for this year. During the state finals for Casting Kids, we had 8 youths competing in the 7-10 age group
and 11 youths competing in the 11-14 age group. There were a few kids who I was unable to contact due to not receiving
any information from the sponsoring club. Starting this year, a copy of all winners from your Casting Kids events
must be turned into to me by February 1, 2004. I will need the winners information so I can contact the parents
in a timely manner. I know there will be Casting Kids events scheduled between the state finals and February 1,
which should not be a problem.
For any clubs wanting to hold a Casting Kids event. You can contact Joy George at B.A.S.S. at 334-272-9530. For
any club wanting information on forming a junior club, you can contact me.
Hopefully we will have an early thaw out this spring and remember to take a kid along with you on your next fishing
trip, it will be a memory that will last a lifetime. |
