2009 Junior World Championship
The TBF Junior World Championship presented by the National Guard was held in conjunction with the Forrest Wood
Cup last week. Two anglers from each State Federation competed in their respective age group for $30,000 in college
scholarships and other prizes.
First place finishers in each age bracket received a $5,000 scholarship plus a $200 Wal-Mart gift card. Second
place finishers received $3,000 scholarships plus a $150 Evinrude certificate. Third place finishers received $2,500
scholarships plus a $100 Cabela's gift card. Fourth place finishers received $2,000 scholarships. Fifth place finishers
received $1,500 scholarships and 6th-place finishers received $1,000 scholarships.
Berkley also awarded $1,000 in Berkley product to each of the state federations represented by the six finalists
in each age group. These awards, which totaled $12,000, will benefit each federation's youth program.
Zach Messer (Aiken, S.C.) won the 15 to18 age group and Daryk Eckert (Stockport, Ohio) won the 11 to14 age group.
Representing the WVBF were Ginger Smyth (11-14) and Andrew Bierer (15-18) both of whom did an excellent job.
All contestants and families were treated to one awesome pizza party Friday night thanks to the National Guard.
The party included a lot of fun (messy) games and nice prizes. A good time was had by all.
