Legislative Update: CARA-LOT
By Jim Summers, Conservation Director
The Conservation and Reinvestment Act of 1999 (CARA, HR701, SB25) is enthusiastically supported by the West Virginia
BASS Federation. CARA would take money from taxes paid by Oil and Gas Companies for drilling already taking place
on the Outer Continental Shelf and put it toward wildlife conservation.
The State of West Virginia would receive between $2.1 million and $3.5 million dollars annually through the passage
of CARA. I urge you to call, write, fax or email our Representatives in your area and ask them to co-sponsor or
vote for passage of CARA, because we at the West Virginia BASS Federation CARA-LOT about conservation and natural
resources.
Now, get out there, get your friends and colleagues to do the same. Ask your community leaders to help out and
get behind the Conservation and Reinvestment Act of 1999. (CARA) We need your support.
