Construction is progressing on the new boat ramp facility at Fort Martin, near Morgantown. This is a West Virginia
Division of Natural Resources project, and according to District Fisheries Biologist Frank Jerenejcic the new facility
will feature parking for 67 trailers, a courtesy dock and a ramp for two boat launches. Other partners in the
project include the Tygart Valley Soil Conservation District who is conducting the construction work and Allegheny
Energy, who provided mitigation for their expansion at their Fort Martin Power Plant. The project also calls
for a deflecting dyke for the ramp to keep debris and other material off the boat ramp. Mon County Development
Authority owns the land and has granted the WVDNR a 25- year lease for the facility.
The ramp is targeted to be open in June, and according to Jerenejcic it will be open in time for the West Virginia
BASS Federation Invitational July 25-26,2009. The Bass Federation Mid-Atlantic Divisional Championship is also
scheduled for this site in September 2009.
The WVDNR and The West Virginia BASS Federation are long-standing partners. This project has been in the planning
stages for several years and is the result of the tireless efforts of the WVDNR, Frank Jerenejcic, and the West
Virginia BASS Federation. It will provide much needed access to the Monongahela River in the Morgantown Area.
