Open Letter From Ray Scott:
[December 1, 2005]
Dear B.A.S.S. Federation Leader:
I just spoke with Don Rucks. His letter is clear and concise…BASS does not wish to lose the Federation nor one
single club - never has and never will.
Most importantly, Don agrees that BASS has some blame in this matter and he is going to get the train back on track.
He is extending his hand on this and now it is up to our federation clubs/members to decide which way they want
to go. For most of us, this is not a difficult decision…for others, they need to take a long look into their heart.
My personal thought is…I don't want to see one individual leave. You are part of more than just an organization…you
are part of the heart and soul of a legacy we founded long ago. I am confident we can make this work and you have
my pledge to help everyone work through this.
Let me be perfectly clear where I stand on one issue. The original concept of creating the Divisional Representatives
may have seemed valid at the time, but it simply didn't work. It took away the fundamental operation that our Federations
have always held most near and dear to their hearts - direct communications. I didn't like the idea in the beginning,
but agreed to try and see if it would work. It didn't. It only served (in my eyes) to generate dissent and animosity,
and it was used by some to create their own empire. For some, that may be how they see the future…and if that is
where some wish to go, I wish them well.
For the rest of us, let's hang in there and work together to make our Federations and Chapter programs better and
stronger. Let us all share the fun and pride of doing all the things we set forth as our goals in 1970.
To all of those who have stood in the cold, the rain, the mud, fought together to overcome activists against our
sport, formed working groups to develop conservation programs for the future, dedicated our time and sweat to work
with the youth programs, worked long hours and carried the banner of the Federation high - I am always with you.
Sincerely,
Ray Scott
