Summersville Lake
It turns out that Len Lanham was telling the truth after all. "We found some nice fish in practice,"
Lanham was overheard saying in the registration line before the 2004 West Virginia BASS Federation Buddy Trail
Tournament at Summersville Lake May 1st. "You can't believe anything that guy tells you before a tournament"
another competitor chuckled, half-heartedly doubting the truth of Lanham's comment.
Well, as the tournament played out Saturday, Lanham and partner Bill Kennedy would catch a 6-fish limit weighing
11-05 anchored by a 2-04 big fish to win the second event of the season and collect the $2,030 first place prize.
The win also put the team in 6th place year-to-date in the overall standings. The top 4 teams automatically qualify
for the 2004 WVBF State Championship.
The team of Halcomb and Hamric finished in second with 10-12, Pioch-Belcher finished third with 10-12 (big fish
was the tie-breaker), Backus-Martin finished fourth and rounding out the top five was Burdette-Summers with 9-15.
86 teams competed in this tournament. There were 213 bass weighed and only 3 total dead fish at the weigh-in.
After two events, the points race is heating up. Here are the top five teams: 1st Pioch-Belcher, 2nd Bailey-Snuffer,
3rd Taylor-Thompson, 4th Ferrell-Dickens, 5th Headley-Rhodes.
The next stop on the WVBF Buddy Trail is the Kanawha River May 23rd. It was also announced that the Burnsville
Lake tournament that was cancelled April 17, will be rescheduled some time in June or July and will be moved to
a river instead of Burnsville Lake. Keep tuned to this web site for more details coming soon.
And remember, when Len Lanham tells you he's on fish - you can take that to the bank.
