| Tim Isaacs |
When Tim Isaacs qualified for the 2003 WVBF state team, during the 2002 WVBF State Championship on Sutton Lake
fishing from the back of Buddy Davis' boat, it was most certainly a dream come true. Little did Isaacs know that
another dream was about to materialize eleven months later at the Divisional on Lake Champlain near Burlington,
Vermont where he qualified for the Federation National Championship with fourteen bass weighing 45 lbs 1 oz.
Tim's winning strategy at Lake Champlain was throwing green pumpkin and watermelon Senkos Wacky style on ten pound
clear Stren on spinning tackle around basketball size bolders scattered in pockets of grass on a flat with five
to twelve feet of water. "There had to be just a little riffle on the water or they wouldn't bite. I was dead
sticking them - just throw them out a good cast and let them sink, if you moved them in any way they wouldn't touch
it." Tim credits first day partner and guide on Lake Champlain Randy Savage for putting him on fish. Isaacs
also extends his gratitude to second and third day partners Vernon Wilson and Bobby Marelli for contributing to
his success. Particularly to Bob Marelli who had fish near the tournament launch site in Mallets Bay which proved
to be critical on day three with the tournament day being shortened to noon due to approaching hurricane Isabel.
"With the wind the way it was I didn't really want to make the forty-five minute run up the lake to where
I fished the first two tournament days," said Issacs.
When ask of his tremendous accomplishment and what it meant Tim replied, "I think every fisherperson in the
Federation dreams of making it to the Divisional let alone the Nationals. So it means quite a lot. To be one tournament
away from the Bassmaster Classic is let's just say awesome."
Isaacs, a 47-year-old welder for Dupont resides in Cutler, Ohio with his wife and two sons. An eleven-year veteran
of tournament fishing, Tim says he fishes around 50 to 60 days a year. Isaacs has been a member of the WVBF and
A & B Bassmasters for eleven years as well. When asked who inspired him to fish Tim's answer was, "My
Dad, he taught me a great deal about a lot of things and fishing was one of them - thanks Dad."
To prepare for the Federation Championship Tim plans to study maps and surf the World Wide Web. Isaacs hopes to
qualify for the 2004 Bassmaster Classic and would be the third WVBF member to do so if his dream of all dreams
does in fact come true. With the great attitude Tim has it would no surprise to see him in Charlotte competing
on Lake Wylie in August. One thing is for sure the whole WVBF will be routing Tim all the way.
Isaacs is sponsored by Hornbeck Bait & Tackle, Roberts Roofing & Construction, Weese's Pawn & Gun,
Harlan Enterprises and the WVBF. |
