Nolan is Classic Bound
[May 21, 2003] - by Dion Bright, WVBF Youth Director

Brady Nolan and Stacy Twiggs.
Just about every angler's dream is to make it to the super bowl of bass fishing. Some wait almost all their lives to live the dream. For nine-year old Brady Nolan of Jacksonburg, WV, his dream has just come true. Nolan, the son of Brenda and Bert Nolan competed along with 92 other youths from across the country to secure one of ten spots to advance to the Bassmasters Classic in New Orleans, LA this summer.

The youths competed in their respective five divisions which were made up of the Central, Western, Southern, Northern, and Eastern. Two age groups of 7-10 and 11-14 competed against each other within the divisions. Brady competed in the Eastern Division against 12 other youths in the 7-10 age group. After Brady completed his flipping, pitching, and casting event, B.A.S.S. Youth Manager, Stacy Twiggs, announced their was a 5-way tie in the 7-10 year old age group in the Eastern Division.

During a cast-off, each youth has one chance to cast to the target for the best possible score of 50. It seemed like déjà vu, as Brady was the last of the five competitors to cast. To rewind back to the state championship at Flatwoods, Brady was the last of three competitors in a cast-off and he landed a perfect 50 to earn a birth to the Nationals. Now as Brady stood at the cast mark, one eye shut and the other eye squinting at the target, Brady let the lure go and landed a solid 50

With the new format set for the CastingKids in New Orleans, Brady will compete against four youths. The two highest scores in each age group will be seeded as #1 and #2. These two contenders in each age group will then compete against each just before the final weigh-in on stage at the Bassmasters Classic.

Congratulations to Brady on his hard earned victory and good luck in New Orleans. Also, congratulations to Wil Definbaugh for a hard battle in the 11-14 age group. Wil fell just ten points short of advancing to the Classic but proved he is a very tough competitor.
