Mine wasn't 5lbs. 10oz.
[April 18, 2003] - By Benjamin Huffman
What a great day! The season opener for the WV Buddy Trail 2003 was a wonderful success. The morning temperature
was 42 degrees with a 51-54 degree water temperature which presented a light fog.
The day was not going to be destroyed by a little fog. Around 10:00am, the fog had disappeared and temperatures
were rising. By the days end, it was 68 degrees and sunny. Enough about the weather, let's get to the fishing.
There were a total of 98 boats at Burnsville, WV. The start of the tournament began sharply at 7:00am. The morning
fog presented a challenge for drivers, so people tended to find a spot and fish until visibility improved . Once
the water was easily navigable, fishermen began to run and gun a little more.
The weigh-in was very exciting. Seventy percent of the boats had keepers and many of them were large. Lunker was
a tight race between White and Davis. Davis caught a largemouth that weighed in at 5lbs. 6oz. White caught lunker
weighing 5lbs. 10oz. The total fish weighed was 150 with a weight of 190lbs. 10oz.
There were two firsts at the Burnsville Lake weigh-in. Both were very successful. The first was the holding tank.
The holding tank was the approx. 100 gallon Rubbermaid tub that contained lake water and Catch & Release®.
One other important feature was the supply of air stones provided to place in your bag to keep the water oxygenated.
The tank worked very well and is a great idea. No fish died and the tank is better than just laying them on the
hot pavement. The second was the presence of the door prizes. Thank you to the many sponsors and companies that
supplied the prizes. To the fisherman, please remember to show your support to our sponsors and if you know of
any companies that would like to give door prizes help them to get in touch with John Burdette.
All being said, Burnsville was very enjoyable. It was a great start to a great program. See you at Sutton. |
