DNR Announces New Format for Lifetime Licenses
[December 23, 2002]
Effective January
2, 2003, the Division of Natural Resources' lifetime hunting and fishing license will take on a new look. The new
license, on a credit card quality stock, is an improvement over the current paper version, significantly increasing
its durability and appearance.
License holders will have their choice of five background images. Those images include a whitetail deer, a wild
turkey, a bear, a small mouth bass, and a brook trout. The new licenses are not only nice to look at, but also
include a barcode that will be compatible with the Division's future electronic licensing system.
"We take great pride in the fact that West Virginia leads the nation with more than 44,000 lifetime license
holders. We wanted to honor the commitment and contribution these folks make to our programs by offering them a
the best looking lifetime license in the nation," Director Ed Hamrick said.
The new type license will be issued to all future lifetime license holders with their initial purchases. Current
lifetime license holders may upgrade to the new license for a $5 fee. Current license holders wishing to upgrade
to the new type should contact the Hunting and Fishing License Unit at (304) 558-2758.
A sample of all five images may be viewed by visiting the DNR Web site at www.dnr.state.wv.us/lifetime.htm
Resident lifetime hunting, trapping and fishing licenses serve in lieu of the equivalent annual license. Applications
are available at all DNR offices and all license agents. A combination hunting, trapping and fishing license (Class
AB-L) lifetime license costs $570.
