FEDERATION NOTES NOV 5
• The 2001 Buddy Trail schedule is finalized. The locations are virtually the same as 2000. You'll find the schedule
in this edition of the Federation Newsletter.
• This year's B.A.S.S. Federation National Championship will be on the Mobil Delta in Alabama. Jim Ayres will be
West Virginia's representative to the tournament April 23-28.
• Virginia will host the 2001 Eastern Divisional Championship. The site is Buggs Island Lake September 23-28.
• The annual Jim Catherman Memorial Youth Tournament will be held June 23rd at Sutton Lake. Entry fee is $30.00
and $5.00 lunker pot. Members are encouraged to bring their own children-or neighborhood children to the event.
Times are from 7am to 1pm. A cookout follows the tournament. Sponsors are also encouraged to make donations to
help add to the prizes.
• The limit of fish for the 2001 Buddy Trail tournament has been lowered from 10 to 8 fish per team. Board members
made the move on the recommendation of Conservation Director Jim Summers. The move is aimed at reducing the possibility
of post-release mortality and makes tournaments more competitive.
• Deadline for club dues is March 11th. The dues remain $600 per club. If new clubs are forming all appropriate
paperwork must be submitted to B.A.S.S. headquarters in Alabama by March 11th.
• Board members are addressing concerns about club alignment. Two clubs, Laurel Valley and Cheat Mountain have
agreed to move from the Northern Division to Central Division. Previously the North had a larger percentage of
clubs-making the qualifying tournaments more difficult to survive. Board members have tabled the matter and may
decide in the future that any new club must begin in the central division in order to keep the divisions as close
as possible in numbers.
• John Burdette has been reelected to the Federation Board for another term. Greg Henline and Mike Gillespie have
been newly elected to the board .
• The 2001 State Championship will be on the Monongahela River at Prickett's Fort. The Northern Qualifier will
be held at Moundsville, Central and Southern Qualifiers will be on the Kanawha River at Saint Albans.
• In an effort to keep in line with B.A.S.S. operating rules, the West Virginia Bass Federation Board voted against
renewing the "off-limits" rules for the 2001 fishing season. Board members have voted to remove any off-limits
restrictions prior to any qualifying tournaments for the coming year. Members felt it was too difficult to police
and adequately enforce the policy. It also made scheduling a headache.
• Youth Director Sarge Travis needs all clubs to send in the names of winners in local Casting Kids Contests ASAP.
The names and addresses are necessary to get invitations in the mail for the winners to come to the state finals. |
