Board Examines More Equity in Club Alignment
The new regional alignment of clubs in the West Virginia Bass Federation has been met with concern by some. Particularly
those fishing in the north. Rumblings of the dissatisfaction surfaced during the pre-tournament meeting for the
northern Qualifier.
"We've got 42-more people in this qualifier than the Central and 30-more than the South," noted one frustrated
angler, "Yet we still get the same amount of slots in the state tournament. It's not exactly fair."
Board members were sensitive to the frustration and are studying the problem. However, instead of forcing any moves
just yet, two clubs; Laurel Valley and Cheat Mountain, volunteered to move from the Northern Division to the Central
Division.
"That puts it at 22 clubs in the North, 19 in the Central, and 19 in the South," said Federation President
John Burdette. "Usually during the next few months we'll have some clubs drop out and other new clubs form
so we'll have to see how that shakes out."
The board has tabled any action on the matter until those questions about which clubs will be around and what new
clubs arrive are answered.
"It may be that we have to put any new club in the Central." Said Burdette, "We want to try and
limit it to where no division has more or less than two clubs than the other. We want to keep it as even as we
can."
However, clubs fishing out of the northern panhandle needn't fear travelling to Summersville for a qualifier.
"If you're a club in the North, we won't move you to the South---or vice versa." |
